The Presidential
Council of the Government of National Accord affirmed that the intention of the
Council Chairman, Fayez al-Sarraj, to resign at the end of next October will
not affect relations with Turkey, especially the security and military
agreements recently signed.
In press
statement, the spokesman for the Government of National Accord said that
relations with Turkey are strategic for both Tripoli and Ankara and that the
Turkish government’s support for the Libyans will continue for the sake of the
country’s stability and its return to peace and security. He added that the
military agreements between the Turkish Ministry of Defense and the Government
of National Accord are binding on both parties, and any new Libyan official in
Tripoli will work to strengthen and develop them to serve the bilateral
interests of both parties.
Fayez Al-Sarraj
announced his “intention to hand over his duties to the next executive
authority no later than next October,” adding in a recorded speech that he
hopes that “the ongoing consultations will lead to the formation of a new
executive authority that will pave the way for presidential and legislative
elections.”
